New York State "Speed Week"
What is "Speed Week"?
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a week-long New York State Police enforcement initiative that will target speeding and aggressive drivers across New York State.
"Speed Week" runs from August 10to August 17th and coincides with the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series at Watkins Glen International Raceway.
New York State Police Patrols
The New York State Police primary enforce the Vehicle and Traffic Laws on State roads. In Westchester County, motorists can expect increased patrols on I-684, I-87, I-95, Route 9, Route 9A and I-287.
As expected there will be increased patrols, tickets and arrests on State highways in Putnam, Rockland, Dutchess and Orange Counties.

Going Beyond the Simple Traffic Ticket
The New York State Police will not only be increasing enforcement for speeding, reckless driving and other aggressive driving but those increased patrols will absolutely lead to increased arrests for DWI, drug possession, weapons possession and other offenses that stem from a simple traffic stop.
Once stopped by law enforcement, State Troopers and police officers continue to investigate for other criminal activity. DWI is the most common secondary offense associated with a simple traffic tickets along with offenses for driving with a suspended license (Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle) and drug offenses.
Increased Court Activity
The local courts along the major interstate highways all will see increase volume. In Westchester County a traffic ticket or arrest will likely to be returnable as a result of Speed Week in the North Castle, Greenburgh, Rye, Port Chester, Yonkers, Mount Vernon, White Plains, and Bedford courts.
